Thieves Targeting Renovated and Newly Built Homes, Warns Police
North Yorkshire Police has issued a warning about thieves targeting homes undergoing renovation and newly built properties in the Rawcliffe and Clifton areas of York.
According to the police, unoccupied building sites have been stripped of items such as copper wiring, diesel, household appliances, lead, brass, and paperwork that could be used for identity fraud.
Homeowners are advised to make regular visits to check on security and contact the police if they see any suspicious activity. The police also recommend only hiring reputable contractors, considering surveillance measures, and making surprise visits to deter thieves.
“Remodeling a home can be exciting, but can create lapses in home security,” the force stated.
