Police Issue Warning After Series of Thefts in York Newbuild HomesThieves Targeting Renovated and Newly Built Homes, Police Warn

North Yorkshire Police has issued a warning about thieves targeting homes undergoing renovation and new builds in the Rawcliffe and Clifton areas of York. Items such as copper wiring, diesel, household appliances, lead, brass, and paperwork have been stolen from unoccupied building sites.

Owners of properties that are currently vacant are advised to make regular security checks to prevent theft. The police emphasized the importance of maintaining home security during remodeling projects, stating, “Remodeling a home can be exciting, but can create lapses in home security.”

Homeowners are urged to report any suspicious activity to the police, especially during construction work. Police recommend hiring reputable contractors, considering surveillance measures, and making surprise visits to deter thieves.
