In a heartwarming turn of events, a ‘knifeman’ was apprehended after a schoolgirl and her mother were attacked in Leicester Square.
Abdullah, a brave shop security guard at TWG Tea shop, recounted how he intervened to save the 11-year-old girl from the assailant. “I heard a scream, at that moment I saw there was one person, roughly [in their] mid-30s or early 30s, and he was like stabbing a kid,” he said.
Thanks to Abdullah’s quick thinking and the help of others, the suspect, a 32-year-old man, was swiftly arrested by the Metropolitan Police. The victims, an 11-year-old girl and her 34-year-old mother, were taken to a major trauma center for treatment.
Despite the shocking incident, there is no indication that it was terror-related. Detective Chief Superintendent Christina Jessah commended the public for their bravery in intervening and assured ongoing support for the victims and their family.
The area around TWG Tea shop was cordoned off as authorities conducted their investigation. Witnesses are urged to come forward with any information that may assist in the case.
London Ambulance Service responded promptly to the scene, providing medical assistance to the victims. The suspect, described as a young, white male, was swiftly taken into custody by armed police.
As the community comes together in the aftermath of this tragic event, one thing is clear – the spirit of unity and courage prevails in times of crisis.
