"Enhanced Home Security Assured as Commons Security Guards Pause Strike Action"

Security guards at the House of Commons have suspended planned strikes (PA)

Security guards at the House of Commons have decided to put their planned strikes on hold after being informed that the implementation of an unpopular new shift pattern will be temporarily halted.

Over 250 members of the Public and Commercial Services union (PCS) were scheduled to engage in industrial action on October 31, November 1, 6, and 7 due to their dissatisfaction with night shifts.

The union has stated that management has reversed its decision and agreed to suspend the introduction of the new roster while discussions take place with union representatives.

PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka expressed, “This is a significant victory for our members working in the House of Commons, although it is only the initial step.

“While it demonstrates the power of a strong union in the workplace, we will not hesitate to announce further strike action if we are unable to secure a satisfactory new roster for our members.”
