ADT recently confirmed that it fell victim to a cyberattack, resulting in the compromise of some customer data. The home security company revealed that the attackers accessed databases containing customer home addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers. ADT assured customers that their home security systems were not compromised during the incident, although they did not provide specific details on how they reached that conclusion. The company stated that only a “small percentage” of customers were affected, without specifying an exact number.
With six million customers as of June 2024, ADT is one of the largest home security companies in the United States. The disclosure of the cyberattack comes shortly after a seller on a cybercrime forum claimed to have stolen over 30,000 customer records from ADT. However, the authenticity of these claims could not be immediately verified.
Sarah Bellinger, a spokesperson for ADT, declined to comment on the cyberattack and data breach when approached by TechCrunch. ADT is currently owned by private equity giant Apollo Global Management, which also owns TechCrunch’s parent company, Yahoo.
