ADT, one of the largest home security companies in the United States, confirmed this week that it was recently hacked, compromising some customer data. The cyberattack and data breach accessed customer home addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers. ADT reassured customers that their home security systems were not compromised during the incident. As of June 2024, ADT had six million customers.
The disclosure comes after a seller claimed to have stolen more than 30,000 customer records from ADT. Sarah Bellinger, a spokesperson for ADT, declined to answer questions about the cyberattack and data breach.
ADT is currently owned by private equity giant Apollo Global Management, which also owns TechCrunch’s parent company, Yahoo.
