The company revealed that the attackers accessed databases containing customer home addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers. ADT assured customers that their home security systems were not compromised during the incident, but did not provide specific details on how they reached that conclusion. The company stated that only a “small percentage” of customers were affected, without specifying the exact number.
This disclosure comes shortly after a cybercriminal claimed to have stolen over 30,000 customer records from ADT. However, the authenticity of these claims could not be immediately verified by TechCrunch. Despite the breach, ADT remains confident in its ability to protect its customers’ security.
As of June 2024, ADT boasted six million customers. The company is currently owned by private equity giant Apollo Global Management, which also happens to own TechCrunch’s parent company, Yahoo.
Sarah Bellinger, a spokesperson for ADT, declined to comment on the cyberattack and data breach when approached by TechCrunch. The company continues to investigate the incident and take necessary steps to ensure the security of its customers’ information.
