Thieves Targeting Renovated and Newly Built Homes for Metal and Materials, Police Warn
North Yorkshire Police has issued a warning about thieves targeting homes undergoing renovation and newly built properties for valuable items like copper wiring, diesel, and household appliances in the Rawcliffe and Clifton areas of York.
Owners of unoccupied properties have been advised to make regular security checks to prevent theft. The police emphasized the importance of maintaining home security during remodeling projects, stating that it can create vulnerabilities.
Homeowners are urged to report any suspicious activity to the police, as lead, brass, and personal documents that could be used for identity fraud have also been reported missing. Police recommend hiring reputable contractors, using surveillance systems, and making surprise visits to deter thieves.
