Police Issue Warning After Series of Thefts in York Newbuild HomesThieves Targeting Renovated and Newly Built Homes, Warns Police

North Yorkshire Police has issued a warning about thieves targeting homes undergoing renovation and newly built properties. Unoccupied building sites in the Rawcliffe and Clifton areas of York have been stripped of items such as copper wiring, diesel, and household appliances.

Owners of properties that are currently unoccupied are advised to make regular visits to ensure security. The police emphasized the importance of maintaining home security during remodeling, stating, “Remodeling a home can be exciting, but can create lapses in home security.”

Homeowners are urged to contact the police if they notice any suspicious activity during construction work. Lead, brass, and paperwork that could be used for identity fraud have also been reported missing.

Police recommend hiring reputable contractors, considering surveillance options, and making surprise visits to deter thieves. Stay updated with BBC Yorkshire on Facebook, X (formerly known as Twitter), and Instagram. Share your story ideas at yorkslincs.news@bbc.co.uk.
