Thieves Targeting Renovated and Newly Built Homes, Police Warn
North Yorkshire Police has issued a warning about thieves targeting homes undergoing renovation and newly built properties in the Rawcliffe and Clifton areas of York. Items such as copper wiring, diesel, household appliances, lead, brass, and paperwork have been stolen from unoccupied building sites.
Owners of properties that are currently not lived in are advised to make regular visits to check on security. The police emphasized the importance of maintaining home security during remodeling projects, stating that “remodeling a home can be exciting, but can create lapses in home security.”
Homeowners are urged to contact the police if they notice any suspicious activity while work is being carried out. Police have also advised renovators to only hire reputable contractors, consider using surveillance, and make surprise visits to deter thieves.
