Local Resident Advocates for Increased Home Security Measures Following Tragic Incident Involving Police Car and Family of GeeseA LaSalle woman is advocating for more signs to be put up in her area after a Windsor police cruiser tragically hit and killed a family of geese in front of her home. Michelle Baillargeon has been helping the geese cross the road each evening to prevent accidents like this since she moved to the area in 2020. She captured the heartbreaking incident on her home security cameras and is now calling for more awareness to prevent future tragedies.

Baillargeon’s efforts to protect the geese have been ongoing, with about half a dozen adult geese and 40 goslings using her yard this year. However, last week, a Windsor police cruiser struck an adult goose and four goslings while she wasn’t there to help them cross. The incident has left the geese “skittish,” according to Baillargeon.

In response, she is requesting the installation of signs to alert drivers to the presence of geese crossing the road in that area. She believes that proper signage could prevent similar accidents from happening in the future. Baillargeon emphasizes that she is not looking to get anyone in trouble, but rather wants to ensure the safety of the geese who faithfully cross the road each night.

This incident serves as a reminder for drivers to be vigilant and watch out for animals on the road. Youssef Kader, a driving instructor, advises drivers to slow down and pass carefully when encountering animals on the road. He stresses the importance of checking mirrors frequently and maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles to prevent accidents.
