
Security Alert in Londonderry Uncovers Improvised Explosive Device (IED)
A security alert in the Barrs Lane area of Ballymagroarty, Londonderry, resulted in the discovery of an improvised explosive device (IED) on Monday. As a precautionary measure, several homes were evacuated during the operation.
The suspicious object was found shortly before 11:00 GMT and has been removed for forensic examination, according to PSNI Det Insp O’Flaherty.
Det Insp O’Flaherty expressed gratitude to the residents for their understanding and cooperation, stating that they have now returned to their homes.
During the incident, the Ballymagroarty Community Centre provided assistance to those affected, while the Farland Way Community Hub accommodated individuals who were unable to enter their homes.
Margaret Cunningham, a community worker, shared that the disruption had upset individuals at the hub, including mothers with young children who were unable to access their homes.
Police have appealed for anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward.
