
Security Alert in Londonderry: IED Discovered
A security alert in the Barrs Lane area of Ballymagroarty, Londonderry, took place on Monday after the discovery of an improvised explosive device (IED).
Homes in the vicinity were evacuated as a precautionary measure. The suspicious object was found shortly before 11:00 GMT.
According to PSNI Det Insp O’Flaherty, the device has been safely removed for forensic examination.
Det Insp O’Flaherty expressed gratitude to the residents for their understanding and cooperation during the incident.
To assist those affected, the Ballymagroarty Community Centre and the nearby Farland Way Community Hub were made available for temporary accommodation.
Margaret Cunningham, a community worker, shared that individuals utilizing the hub were upset by the disruption caused by the incident.
She stated, “There were mums with young children who had come home from school and were standing in the cold unable to get into their homes,” when speaking to BBC News NI.
