Security guards at the House of Commons have decided to put their planned strikes on hold after being informed that the implementation of an unpopular new shift pattern will be temporarily paused.
A total of 250 members from the Public and Commercial Services union (PCS) were scheduled to go on strike on October 31, November 1, 6, and 7 due to concerns over night shifts.
The union stated that managers have reversed their decision and agreed to halt the introduction of the new roster while engaging in discussions with union representatives.
Mark Serwotka, the general secretary of PCS, expressed, “This is a significant victory for our members working in the House of Commons, although it is just the initial step.
“While it demonstrates the power of a strong union in the workplace, we will not hesitate to announce further strike action if we are unable to secure a satisfactory new roster for our members.”
