Mohamed Al Fayed’s head of security, John Macnamara, allegedly compromised the Jill Dando murder investigation by participating in bribery with a corrupt detective. The late Harrods boss has faced accusations from hundreds of women for sexual assault, following a recent BBC documentary. Despite these allegations, Al Fayed was never arrested before his passing at the age of 94 last year. Jill Dando, the BBC Holiday show star, was tragically shot at her home in South West London in April 1999, and her murder remains unsolved.
According to Punch magazine, which was owned by Al Fayed, previously undisclosed details from the investigation have surfaced, revealing that Dando was shot behind the ear. Punch writer John McVicar claimed in his book “Dead on Time” that Macnamara arranged a meeting with a detective who leaked information for a sum of £300. Allegedly, Macnamara called in favors for Al Fayed from police officers he socialized with.
McVicar, who passed away at the age of 82 two years ago, criticized Macnamara, who died in 2019, stating, “He has broken far more people’s careers and lives than he has made.” The Metropolitan Police declined to provide a comment on the matter.
