A Stoke-on-Trent home was hit by lightning, causing a big boom and a bright flash as caught on camera. The incident happened in Longton’s Bambury Street yesterday, leading to residents being evacuated and a police cordon set up.
The video shows the moment the roof of the house is struck by lightning, with a loud explosion and a bright yellow flash. Firefighters rushed to the scene just before 5.25pm.
Neighbours were evacuated after hearing a “massive bang” and one witness even said a passing motorist stopped to tell them the roof was on fire. The incident coincided with a yellow thunderstorm warning in the city.
Last night’s stormy weather left around 1,700 homes in North Staffordshire without power and caused water supply issues in some properties. Heavy rainfall also led to flooding on several major roads.
The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for more heavy rain tomorrow, covering a large part of England. They warned of possible travel disruption and flooding due to the expected rainfall.
