Stay Safe: Gardaí Stress Importance of Basic Home Security Measures Following Car Burglary in LimerickGARDAÍ are reminding the public about the importance of basic home security measures after a car was stolen from a Limerick address.

A man in his late 30s reported to Henry Street Garda Station that his car had been stolen overnight on Wednesday, September 11 from outside his home in Dromroe, Castletroy.

The victim last saw his car parked outside his home at 10pm and by 6am the following morning, Thursday September 12, his car was missing.

Sergeant Ber Leetch, crime prevention officer at Henry St garda station, said: “The man has CCTV at his home, which clearly showed a male entering the front garden. A moment later, this male reappears at the front of the house, unlocks the car and drives off.”

Gardaí believe that “the thief saw the car, wanted it, looked in the windows, may have seen the car keys and then tried the back door”. When the perpetrator found this was locked, “he managed to get in the unsecured window and left by the back door”.

Limerick gardaí are reminding everyone that “the most basic principle of home security is to lock all windows and doors and hide your car keys out of sight”, following this incident.
