ADT recently confirmed that they were the victims of a cyberattack, resulting in some customer data being compromised. The home security company revealed that the attackers were able to access databases containing customer home addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers.
In a recent regulatory filing, ADT stated that they have “no reason to believe” that customer home security systems were affected by the breach, although they did not provide details on how they came to that conclusion. The company mentioned that only a “small percentage” of customers were impacted, without specifying an exact number.
As of June 2024, ADT reported having six million customers. The disclosure of the cyberattack comes shortly after a cybercriminal claimed to have stolen over 30,000 customer records from ADT on a known cybercrime forum.
Sarah Bellinger, a spokesperson for ADT, declined to comment on the cyberattack and data breach when contacted by TechCrunch. ADT is one of the leading home security companies in the United States and is currently owned by private equity firm Apollo Global Management, which also owns TechCrunch’s parent company, Yahoo.
