Security guard Gavin Plumb has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 16 years at Chelmsford Crown Court for plotting to kidnap, rape, and murder TV presenter Holly Willoughby.
During the trial, it was revealed that Plumb’s actions had a “catastrophic and life-changing” impact on Willoughby. The judge, Mr. Justice Edward Murray, stated that if Plumb had found accomplices, he would have carried out his plan.
Plumb’s defense barrister, Sasha Wass KC, described him as being “obsessed” with Willoughby and deeply regretful for causing her pain. The court also heard from a woman who Plumb had previously tried to falsely imprison in 2008, who expressed relief that she was able to escape.
The judge commended Willoughby for waiving her right to anonymity and facing the situation with courage. He emphasized the seriousness of Plumb’s plans, which were deemed too graphic to be shared in open court.
Plumb, who muttered “15 years to kill myself” upon hearing his sentence, will serve a minimum of 16 years in prison. Prosecutor Nicola Rice expressed hope that the sentence brings comfort to Willoughby and other victims, sending a clear message that violence against women will not be tolerated.
