England stars have spared no expense in boosting their home security to keep the Away Day burglary gangs at bay while they compete at the Euros.
Members of Gareth Southgate’s squad have taken measures to prevent a repeat of the burglary that Raheem Sterling, 29, experienced during the World Cup. Sterling had to rush home from the tournament in Qatar in December 2022 when thieves stole £300,000 worth of designer watches from his house.
High-profile raids on other players’ homes have continued to make headlines since then, including incidents involving Manchester City’s Jack Grealish, 28, and Newcastle United’s striker Alexander Isak, 24.
Now that the Three Lions have arrived in Germany for the Euros, they have gone to great lengths to secure their luxury mansions during the tournament.
A source revealed, “Players don’t want any worry or distractions while away. They’ve seen what’s happened previously and want to make sure their focus is on the tournament, at any cost.”
Security firms have installed cutting-edge technology like night vision cameras with a detection range of around 150ft and 8K resolution. Ex-Army personnel with highly trained guard dogs will be patrolling the grounds, along with surveillance drones with 360-degree vision.
The players have also hired private bodyguards amid fears of terrorism following threats issued by ISIS ahead of Champions League matches this season.
Security experts have praised the players for taking these precautions to protect their homes and families while they are away competing.
The squad has already settled into their Euros base at the Weimarer Golf Hotel and Spa in Blankenhain, eastern Germany, and are gearing up for their tournament opener against Serbia on Sunday after a disappointing defeat to Iceland last week.
