Rising Trend: Smart Home Security Technology on the Rise, According to CSO ReportThe latest research from the Central Statistics Office has revealed a surge in the use of smart technology, both indoors and outdoors.

According to the Smart Technology 2024 Report, the adoption of smart home security solutions like internet-connected alarm systems, security cameras, and doorbells has nearly doubled since 2022. In the first half of 2024, 30% of people utilized smart solutions for home security, compared to just 17% in 2022.

Additionally, almost three in ten individuals are now using smart devices such as thermostats, smart meters, and light controls for energy management in their homes, marking a six percentage point increase from 2022.

The report also found that one in seven people are incorporating smart home appliances both inside and outside their homes, including robot vacuums, ovens, coffee machines, and even internet-connected lawn mowers or garden irrigation systems. This is a significant jump from the 6% reported in 2022.

Furthermore, more than four in ten internet users are now utilizing virtual assistants like Google Home, Alexa, or Apple HomePod, while over three-quarters are connecting to the internet via smart TVs, including through Chromecast.

The CSO figures also revealed that more than half of individuals are wearing smart devices such as smart watches, fitness bands, or activity trackers. Additionally, one in nine people are using smart solutions for monitoring their health, such as tracking blood pressure, sugar levels, or body weight.

Maureen Delamere, a CSO Statistician in the Social Analysis Division, commented on the findings, stating, “As our everyday lives become more virtual, we are increasingly using the Internet of Things (IoT) to connect devices and objects to the internet as part of our daily lives, both inside and outside the home.”
