ADT recently confirmed that they were the victims of a cyberattack, resulting in some customer data being compromised. The home security company revealed that the attackers were able to access databases containing customer home addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers.
In a brief regulatory filing, ADT assured customers that their home security systems were not compromised during the incident, although they did not provide details on how they reached this conclusion. The company stated that only a “small percentage” of customers were affected, without specifying an exact number.
As of June 2024, ADT reported having six million customers. This disclosure comes shortly after a cybercriminal claimed to have stolen over 30,000 customer records from ADT on a known cybercrime forum.
Despite these events, Sarah Bellinger, a spokesperson for ADT, declined to comment on the cyberattack and data breach. ADT is one of the leading home security companies in the United States and is currently owned by private equity giant Apollo Global Management.
