Thieves Targeting Renovated and Newly Built Homes for Metal and Materials, Police Warn
North Yorkshire Police has issued a warning about thieves targeting homes undergoing renovation and new construction in the Rawcliffe and Clifton areas of York. Items such as copper wiring, diesel, household appliances, lead, brass, and paperwork have been stolen from unoccupied building sites.
Owners of properties that are currently uninhabited are advised to make regular security checks, as the excitement of remodeling can sometimes lead to lapses in home security. Police are urging homeowners to report any suspicious activity during construction work and to only hire reputable contractors.
To prevent theft, renovators are encouraged to consider using surveillance and make surprise visits to deter criminals. Police also recommend contacting authorities if any suspicious behavior is observed. Stay updated with BBC Yorkshire on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for more news updates.
