The Duke of Sussex has been given the green light to appeal a High Court ruling that dismissed his challenge over a decision to downgrade his personal security when visiting the UK.
Prince Harry initially took legal action against the Home Office in 2020 after a decision was made to provide him with a different level of taxpayer-funded protection following his and Meghan’s decision to step back from royal duties.
The High Court ruled in February that the decision was lawful, but now the Court of Appeal has agreed to hear Harry’s challenge after a direct application from his lawyers.
The decision to reduce his security was made by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec) in February 2020. Despite a previous ruling in February that upheld Ravec’s decision, Harry’s legal team is determined to ensure a fair and lawful application of the rules.
This latest development allows Prince Harry to challenge the dismissal at the Court of Appeal, marking another legal battle for the prince who has also taken on the British press in high-profile lawsuits.
