"Confusion at Airport Security: Brits Face Delays and Frustration"

Confusion at Airport Security: Brits Face Delays and FrustrationThousands of Brits are facing long queues at airport security due to confusion over new baggage rules. New CT scanners are being installed at airports across the country to speed up security checks and allow passengers to pack up to 2 litres of liquids. However, some passengers are struggling to understand the new rules, with Birmingham Airport reporting that over 15 percent of carry-on bags are being rejected because passengers think the 100ml rule has been scrapped.

With about 772,000 passengers passing through Birmingham Airport in February 2024, an average of 3,860 daily passengers are getting caught out by the liquid restrictions. While the airport is working to implement the new technology, delays are being caused by passengers who mistakenly believe the new scanners are already in place.

A spokesperson from Birmingham Airport reminded passengers that existing security restrictions are still in effect, and non-compliant bags can add an extra 10 minutes to the security search time for each passenger. Passengers across the UK are advised to check liquid rules at both their departure and return airports, as rules may vary.

The Department of Transport has set a deadline of June 2024 for all UK airports to have the new scanners in place. In the meantime, passengers are urged to familiarize themselves with the current security restrictions to avoid delays at the airport.
