For the average three-bedroom semi-detached property, The Tower is a complete solution that requires no additional components and is ready to use once the base station is plugged in. It includes internal and external cameras, a motion detector, door and window sensors, and an integrated keypad. While The Tower is one of the more expensive options, SimpliSafe often offers significant discounts on its products, making packages like this more affordable.
Users of SimpliSafe can choose between self-monitoring or professional monitoring, with two flexible monitoring plans starting at just 53p per day.
Setting it up
We found the peel-and-stick sensors extremely easy to install, with no drilling required and clear connectivity instructions. The system was also simple to set up using the dedicated app.
The hardware is sleek and stylish, available in obsidian or white, and features a contemporary pear-shaped base station that glows with a steady blue light and pulses in case of a system error.
System app
With the SimpliSafe app, you can control your security system remotely through user-friendly smartphone or tablet interfaces. The app allows you to arm or disarm your system, view live camera feeds, and receive instant notifications in case of a security event. The system uses end-to-end encryption to protect data, ensuring personal information and video feeds remain secure and private.
All of SimpliSafe’s packages are compatible with smart home ecosystems Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, allowing you to control your security system using voice commands.
While the indoor camera doesn’t have pan or zoom capabilities, its 120-degree lens covers a wide area. The picture quality and sound are clear, and even the night vision is sharp. The motion detection uses heat signatures to differentiate between a pet, a person, and an object (like a thrown ball), reducing false alarms.
If you opt for one of the monthly subscription plans, you’ll benefit from 24/7 professional monitoring. With the more advanced monitoring package, the SimpliSafe monitoring center is alerted in case of any security concerns, and they can dispatch emergency services to your location.
Our opinion
While SimpliSafe’s The Tower package offers an excellent home security solution, the initial cost may be a barrier for some homeowners. However, considering the quality, features, and flexibility of the monitoring plans, we believe it is a worthwhile investment in the long run.
Alternatively, SimpliSafe’s Essentials package provides a smaller, more affordable option that can be used as is (ideal for smaller homes) or expanded and customized to fit your home and needs. Every penny spent on home security with SimpliSafe is money well spent.
