Homeland Security recently made a surprising discovery in a trash-filled basement in the Bronx. Eight migrants were found squatting in the basement, along with drugs, guns, and even a seven-year-old child.
The raid was prompted by the NYPD’s arrest of seven men and one woman at the same location. While six of the migrants were initially released without bail, DHS agents re-arrested two of them during a subsequent raid.
According to NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell, one of the migrants had an open case for attempted murder in Yonkers, while another had a case for carrying an open gun. The basement where the migrants were living was in deplorable condition, filled with clutter, trash bags, and even a makeshift swimming pool.
Despite the disturbing scene, it remains unclear why most of the migrants were released without bail. The group faces charges related to criminal possession of weapons, controlled substances, and endangering a child. The eight arrested individuals were identified as Hector Desousa-Villalta, Jaiver Alborno, Yoessy Pino Castillo, Yerbin Lozado-Munoz, Yojairo Martinez, Miquel Vaamondes-Barrios, Jefferson Orlando Abreau, and Johan Cardenas Silva.
The illegal activity had allegedly been ongoing for months in the Norwood section of New York. Dramatic footage from the raid showed NYPD officers apprehending the suspects and uncovering more weapons and drugs in the basement.
Neighbors described the migrants as squatters who had been causing disruptions in the area. The owner of the building had been trying to evict them for some time. It’s a bizarre and troubling situation that has left many questioning how such activities could go unnoticed for so long.
