The Department of Homeland Security is currently working with federal, state, and local law enforcement officials at a residence in Maxville. The investigation has been ongoing throughout the day on Thursday, with Action News Jax crews noting bullet holes in the windows and inside the home itself.
The action is taking place on County Road 217, near the Duval-Clay county line. SWAT was called to the scene in the morning, and at one point, viewers were advised to shelter-in-place.
According to sources, there was gunfire at the home earlier in the day. One suspect reportedly fired at law enforcement multiple times during a warrant execution. Sadly, one suspect has taken their own life, while another is in custody.
Inside the home, a significant number of firearms were discovered, with law enforcement officers seen coming in and out of the residence. Some officers were even seen coughing, indicating potential hazards within the home.
Assisting with the investigation are the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, and the Florida Highway Patrol. The Department of Homeland Security has stated that due to the active nature of the investigation, they are unable to provide further details at this time.
