"Former Borders Watchdog Exposes Home Office's Security Failings as 'Dysfunctional'"

Former Borders Watchdog Exposes Home Office's Security Failings as 'Dysfunctional'The man recently ousted as the UK’s top immigration inspector has called out the Home Office as “dysfunctional” and in desperate need of reform. David Neal, who was removed after raising concerns about unchecked private jet flights landing in the UK, spoke out in an interview with the BBC’s Today podcast. Despite being sacked, Mr. Neal stands by his actions, stating, “my conscience is absolutely clear.”

Mr. Neal, a former head of the Royal Military Police, had accused the Home Office of withholding his reports on border and security issues. After his dismissal, the department swiftly released 13 of his reports on the same day, sparking criticism for attempting to bury them amidst the news of the inquiry into the murder of Sarah Everard by police officer Wayne Couzens.

Security Minister Tom Tugendhat defended the decision to sack Mr. Neal, citing leaked sensitive and inaccurate information as grounds for dismissal. He also mentioned that the search for Mr. Neal’s replacement is already underway.

In response to the criticism, a Home Office spokesman emphasized the ongoing efforts to reform and strengthen Border Force’s capabilities. They highlighted a decrease in small boat arrivals as evidence of progress in border security.
