The home secretary has given the immigration watchdog the boot after some not-so-great reports about the immigration system made their way into the papers.
David Neal, the Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration, was reportedly behind a critical report on the visa system for care workers that ended up in The Times. He also popped up in a story in The Daily Mail about security checks on private jets at airports.
Mr. Neal’s contract was supposed to end next month, but it got cut short by the Home Office. They said he breached his terms of appointment and lost the confidence of the Home Secretary.
Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper called out the government for sitting on 15 unpublished reports from the inspector. She’s demanding that they be released ASAP.
Unfortunately, BBC News couldn’t reach Mr. Neal for his side of the story. Looks like this saga is far from over!
