“I always keep a baseball bat under the bed, but I never thought I’d have to use it against an intruder,” says Mike* calmly. In the early hours of the morning, Mike’s wife, Anne*, woke up to find a man dressed in black standing at the foot of their bed, pointing a gun at them. The intruder proceeded to tie them up and violently attacked Mike, rendering him unconscious. He then forced Anne to lead him to their valuable possessions at gunpoint and made off with £50,000 worth of watches, cash, and jewelry — some of which were forcefully taken from Anne.
It turns out that the couple had very little security measures in place. Their alarm system was old and no longer functional, they didn’t have a safe, and their bi-fold doors proved to be an easy entry point for the intruder.
