A black bear was caught on a home surveillance camera raiding a person’s kitchen in Connecticut. The homeowner, Helena Houlis, was alerted to the unusual break-in when her Ring security camera captured the large bear wandering around her home in Barkhamsted. The footage shows the bear strolling through the front hallway before making its way into the kitchen and skillfully opening the freezer door with its paws. The hungry animal rummaged through Houlis’ freezer and grabbed some frozen chicken before making a quick exit through an open window and disappearing into the nearby woods. Fortunately, Houlis was not at home during the incident and only discovered the bear’s visit when her phone alerted her to a potential break-in. She later revealed that the bear had entered her home through a cracked window, leaving behind tufts of fur and scattered dog food. Despite the mess, no significant damage was caused. According to Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environment Protection (DEEP), black bears have a heightened sense of smell, which often leads them to campsites and residential areas in search of food.
