"Communities Take Charge: Private Security Patrols Mobilized to Safeguard Neighborhoods Amid Rising Burglary Cases"

Residents in the market town of Kimbolton, Cambridgeshire, have taken matters into their own hands after a string of burglaries left them feeling unsafe. A group of houses in the area have hired a private security company to patrol the streets at night using dogs and marked cars. The residents, frustrated with what they perceive as a lack of police presence, are paying about £35 per household per month for the service. Blueline Security, which employs ex-police and military workers, has expanded its services to rural areas in recent years. One resident, Derek Suckling, had his home burgled while his wife was inside. The stolen vehicle was later used in other burglaries before being found in a farmer’s field. The residents decided to hire a private security firm due to the infrequent presence of police in the area. Prior to this, some residents had resorted to sleeping with guns out of fear. The town has experienced at least 20 burglaries or attempted burglaries in the span of four months. Homeowners are advised to take precautions such as locking windows and doors, not leaving spare keys outside, and keeping sheds and garages securely locked. Burglar alarms, dogs, and CCTV are also effective deterrents.
